The Ten Core Concepts of Science of Mind
Dr. Ernest Holmes, the founder and developer of the Science of Mind philosophy, gave this definition for his teaching:
Science of Mind “is a synthesis of the laws of science, opinions of philosophy, and revelations of religion, applied to human needs and the aspirations of humankind.”
Science of Mind identifies the spiritual principles that apply equally to everyone in every situation, and it teaches us how to use them to create a better life.
- Oneness
The universe is a living expression of a single divine source. Everything we see, feel, and experience is part of this sacred oneness, each of us a unique, individual expression of the divine. - Triune Nature
Divine presence flows through three aspects: Spirit, Soul, and Body. As reflections of this divine structure, we each carry these same three qualities, connecting us to the vastness of the divine (the macrocosm) and embodying it within ourselves (the microcosm). - Creative Power
The divine brings creation into being through thought. In the same way, every human achievement begins in thought. Our ability to imagine, create, and manifest mirrors the Divine Creative Process on an individual level. - Prayer
Infinite Good is always available, ready to flow into our lives. Through affirmative prayer, or spiritual mind treatment, we open ourselves to this flow, raising our awareness of the Good that is constantly moving through us. - Wholeness
Spirit is a perfect and complete presence, embracing all experiences, even those that seem opposite. As human beings, we have free will to choose our experiences, whether uplifting or challenging. The same divine principle that brings freedom, joy, and abundance also allows us to experience limits, based on our own consciousness. - Abundance
Everything we could ever need or desire is already provided by the Universe’s infinite abundance. This gift is available to everyone without exception, offering each of us an inheritance of unlimited possibilities. - The Reciprocal Universe
Every visible thing has an invisible essence. We attract what aligns with our beliefs and expectations—the Law of Mental Equivalents. This is also the Golden Rule: what we give to others will be reflected back to us, following the Law of Cause and Effect. - Forgiveness
In the timeless, divine reality, there is no anger, punishment, or unforgiveness. If we feel the need to forgive, it’s a human experience, one that liberates us to live in harmony with the present. Forgiveness is essential for spiritual growth and for living in true freedom. Science of Mind teaches that life’s ultimate purpose is to free ourselves from all forms of discord, a journey each of us is destined to complete. - Immortality
Life itself is eternal, never-ending. What we call death is merely a shift from one form of life to another. Just as birth brings the unseen into visibility, so does death transition the visible into invisibility. Life continues in new expressions beyond the physical, when the body has fulfilled its purpose. - The Christ
The Christ is not a person but a universal principle, a divine presence within all of creation. This “Cosmic Christ” exists in every one of us, an inner essence that connects us to the divine. We embody this Christ nature to the extent that we recognize and live from this inner truth. Jesus of Nazareth, the master teacher, is a profound example, having expressed the Christ nature with unparalleled clarity and depth. We also recognize other spiritual and wise teachers from both ancient wisdom traditions (e.g. Buddha) and contemporary wisdom (e.g. Martin Luther King Jr.). It all leads to the same Divine Presence.
